Nico Hulkenberg put in an awesome lap, one that was good enough to let him start P3 in tomorrow’s 70th Anniversary Grand Prix. The German who had the misfortune of a DNS last Sunday, had looked very impressive throughout all three practice sessions this time around. However, unlike last week, he was able to carry his race pace into Saturday’s qualifying session.

Hulkenberg was obviously pumped after his performance and reacted in the style of Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer Peter Bonnington.

Firstly, not many would have expected Nico to seal a second-row place. Secondly, even lesser people would have expected him to outpace Max Verstappen. But the German really came through big time. His brilliant qualifying performance, deservedly, set the Twitter world alight.

Here’s what Hulkenberg said after his P3 finish in qualifying

The German gave a short and sweet reply after he being asked about his showing today. Hulkenberg said, “The last seven/eight days have been crazy. This weekend I felt much better prepared. Q3 was just head down, full beans, and give it whatever I had. I’m a bit surprised to be standing here but there is a big smile on my face.”

Also, a P3 start gives the Hulk the best possible chance for scoring his maiden F1 podium. He has got the whole F1 world rooting for him. Besides, for all his talent, the man really deserves the chance to pop the champagne at least once during his F1 career.

Can Nico deliver the result we all desperately hope from him? Or (god forbid) would he run into rotten luck once again? We’re all set to find out the answers to those questions in tomorrow’s 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.
