According to Formel1.de, Toto Wolff’s former assistant clarified how the Austrian has influenced him. He said, “He and I have had a working relationship for a long time. I’m thinking about how long that was, but probably twelve years. And you don’t just let go of such a relationship overnight. I had a discussion with him once, and he asked me about my point of view. And I explained to him very clearly that I am different from him. And that’s a good thing. I don’t want to be like him. I want to have my own independent thoughts. That’s what the strengths of both of us are.”

As per express.co.uk, Wolff said, “If I were ever to get involved with James and asked him to become mini-Mercedes, he would tell me to get lost. There was always the speculation that Williams, because of the Mercedes engine, was a subordinate, but none of that was obviously true and we never interfered in some kind of driver situation.”
