“Unfinished Business” – Daniel Ricciardo Promises Redemption for Renault at the Bahrain Grand Prix

The 2019 Bahrain Grand Prix was a forgetful race for Renault F1 team. Both drivers Daniel Ricciardo and Nico Hulkenberg made contact on Lap 39, leading to both cars retiring shortly. While Hulkenberg has now been replaced by Esteban Ocon, the horrors of last year still oscillate in Ricciardo’s minds.
If the performances of this year are to be considered, even a podium won’t be unrealistic for the Aussie. He’s been in the form of his life, having gotten two podiums this season already. Commenting on this, he acknowledged his poor results at Bahrain, but promised redemption.
“The Sakhir circuit in Bahrain is a good one, I’ve always enjoyed racing there and night sessions are always fun to take part in. In recent years, I haven’t had the best results in Bahrain, but I’m looking to set that right this weekend,” remarked Daniel Ricciardo.

He appears much more in sync with his car this season than last season. Thus, his confidence echoes in his results.
“There are some decent overtaking spots, especially Turn 1, which is probably the best place to attack,” explained Ricciardo.

Still fighting for the P3 at this year’s constructor’s championship, Renault appears ready for the last leg of the season. The return of champion Fernando Alonso for 2021 has added an extra zeal to them.
For the time being, before Daniel moves to McLaren, he would hope to get a few more podiums for his team. He mentioned it feels heavenly to win for his crew because they have been working very hard.

Remembering the race in Turkey, almost everyone besides the top three would want to forget the race. The wet tarmac of Istanbul Park turned it into a nightmare as there was no grip. Daniel definitely got frustrated, but still managed to pull a P6. However, Ocon missed out on the points completely after a turbulent race.

“We had a difficult time last time out in Turkey, with the low levels of grip and wet weather making it a very unpredictable race. Bahrain should be back to more ‘normal’ running, with a more familiar track surface.
“We need to get both cars back into the points. I’m feeling much more on top of the car since we were last in Bahrain, so I think we should be in a good place. We also have a bit of unfinished business there after last season, so I’m pretty hungry and fired up,” concluded Ricciardo.
