Lewis Hamilton endured a positive weekend in Canada after his recent struggles. A disappointing start to the season has left both Hamilton and Mercedes in a spot of bother. But the Canadian GP proved to be a different story as the W13 showed improvement.

Hamilton called the Azerbaijan GP as one of his worst races as he struggled physically because of the porpoising issue. However, the next race in Silverstone could prove radically different. The recent history in this venue is steeped in Mercedes and in particular, Hamilton’s favor.

The Mercedes driver has won the British GP a record 8 times, 3 more than any other driver. Speaking on the team’s potential in Silverstone, the seven-time world champion revealed the extent of porpoising he expects and cheekily mentioned how Max Verstappen’s RB-18 does not struggle with this issue while Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari does.

He said, “I think we are better in the medium and high-speed corners probably than we are in the low-speed corners. But we have bouncing so I don’t know how it’s gonna be through copse and all those places. Max doesn’t know what I’m talking about, but I know Carlos knows what I’m saying.”

The Dutchman joined in on the fun as he mimicked the bouncing effect on the car.

Earlier, the FIA took immediate action on this problem and issued a statement for a short-term fix. However, Verstappen was discontent with the FIA’s decision to change the rules in the middle of the season.

Coming to Canada, Hamilton and Co were expecting another week of struggle. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is similar to Baku with long straights and Friday’s free practice once again proved to be a hard task for the Mercedes drivers.

However, following an impressive wet qualifying session, the Silver Arrows’ porpoising seems to have decreased in the race. And Hamilton himself revealed this after the Grand Prix.

But this weekend, we managed to… we did have bouncing but it was nowhere near on the… if the last race was 10G’s this one maybe was to two or three or something like that, you know, so it’s livable.”

“But we still, I think, as a sport need to do better and I think us as a team also need to do better,” the Brit stated.

Meanwhile, the Silverstone track, much like Circuit de Catalunya, will relatively suit Mercedes. So, Lewis Hamilton and Co will look to build on this momentum as the season progresses.
