Amazon released a documentary starring World Champion Fernando Alonso on 25th September. It focussed on his exploration in Motorsports other than Formula 1.

Alonso went on to bill Formula 1 as ‘boring’ despite getting the most attention. He also revealed that he did the documentary to ‘shed light’ on other racing series that are more adventurous on and off track.

Alonso stressed on the fact that racing fans are focussing on F1, but there are a lot more racing events in the sport that deserves a much larger viewership too.

The world of Motorsports is very large but 90% of the attention is focussed on F1,” said Alonso. “While curiously, today it is the only discipline that is decided in advance and the most boring in quotes because we already know who will win before the race even begins.

There is this contradiction in the world of sport. F1 is the best, it captures all the attention. But the other disciplines are now more spectacular for the fans,” said the Spaniard.

Formula 1 remains the best and always will be. But I’d hope the documentary will make people want to turn on the TV on the weekends to watch the WEC or the Rally when they have free time. And I think they will like it.

Apart from Formula 1, Alonso has taken part in other racing series like the 24-hours of Daytona in 2018. The very same year, he raced in the World Endurance Championship 2018-2019.

He also took part in the 24-hours of Le Mans in 2018 and 2019. Now Alonso is all set to make his re-entry into Formula 1 with the to-be Alpine Racing team.

Alonso explains the life of a driver in Formula 1 and how it would be in other racing events across the world. “The life of a Formula 1 driver is much better than that of an Endurance or a Rally-raid driver,” Alonso said.

In F1, you have many privileges, everyone is at your disposal. You stay in five-star hotels, close to the circuits. There are well-defined schedules and a routine that is repeated every week. There isn’t a lot of improvisation.

Outside of F1, the world is very different, more difficult,” Alonso said. “On the Dakar, we sometimes play mechanics, we sleep where we can. There isn’t even a toilet (laughs).
