The partnership between Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes is considered one of the most successful in Formula 1’s history. The driver, since his arrival, has bagged six driver championships and with Nico Rosberg and Valtteri Bottas as his partners over the years, has won eight consecutive constructor titles for the Brackley outfit. But as things stand, the partnership between the two can come to an end at the end of this year.

Lewis Hamilton signed his latest contract extension with Mercedes back in 2021. But over the last season, people noticed his frustration with the team over its incapability to deliver a race-winning car. It was speculated that the driver might not sign an extension and possibly retire or move away from the Silver Arrows. But the speculation died soon as the driver then made his fans jump in delight as he himself dismissed any rumors of him being discontent with the team.

In an interview last season, and as quoted by Formu1a.uno, the Briton said, “For years, we’ve been going around, up and down, with stories of retirement and stopping. For me, I feel happier than I’ve ever felt, as I focus a lot on that – I’m feeling fit.”

“I love what I’m doing, and I don’t plan on stopping any time soon…For sure, it’s a challenge. For me, it’s just winning another World Championship. [With] everyone [World title], I’ve approached it as my first, and the feeling of winning the World Championship is so unique and special in its own way,” he concluded.

This was a major positive sign seen by the driver and the team’s fans. Lewis and Mercedes are said to be made for each other, as both share great understanding and display compatibility.

Lewis Hamilton shows the intent of signing an extension

Lewis has been a part of the team since 2013. Since then, he’s signed several multi-year contracts, demonstrating his dedication to the team.

This time as well, as he turned 38 last week, Lewis looks determined to sign a good extension. Last year, ahead of the Mexican GP, the driver showed real intention; as quoted by Sky Sports, he said, “I’m not putting a limit on it, to be honest. I’m planning to do a multi-year deal with my team.”

A contract extension now, during the winter break, can put an end to rumors of separation and retirement. It would also show Mercedes putting itself back on the front row of the grid.
