Lewis Hamilton was aiming for pole position for the Russian Grand Prix. However, things started to fall apart in Q3, where the Brit damaged the front wing of his Mercedes while entering the pits; this saw the 7-times world champion lose precious time.

Additionally, Hamilton spun in the final minutes of qualifying, losing out on an opportunity to get a provisional pole. However, team boss, Toto Wolff, doesn’t think that team or the driver made any mistakes in Sochi and is still optimistic about getting a good result.

The Silver Arrows were hoping for a better quali session on Saturday afternoon in Sochi. However, in the final round of the session, Hamilton made crucial errors which costed the Brackley-based squad to miss out on pole position. Instead of blaming anyone, Wolff doesn’t see any mistakes.

As quoted from Formuel1.nl, the Austrian boss said, “I don’t think this is a situation where you can say ‘we made a mistake’. It is also not the case that the drivers played a role in this. Even if Lewis hadn’t hit the wall, we wouldn’t have had time for that. That’s why I don’t want to talk about mistakes.”

Wolff added, “No one has a crystal ball. It’s a shame because this cost us first and second on the grid. Lewis can definitely still win from his starting spot, so that should be the goal as well.” (Translated from Dutch via Google)
