The ex-McLaren F1 driver and the forever Honey Badger, Daniel Ricciardo, once made an appearance on a podcast called ‘Armchair Expert’ with Dax Shepard. The Australian came clean about his struggles in his career and shared his utmost fears with the people.

Watching his own performance graph drop made a huge impact on the Australian. He admitted to being ‘s****y’ to be around. The F1 life was controlling the way the Australian felt and navigated his entire life outside of the sport. And this wasn’t serving to be healthy for him; which the Honey Badger was growing well aware of.

On the podcast, he said, “Racing was dictating my overall happiness. You have a bad race and then, okay, I’m now just a s****y person to be around.”

“You have to kind of separate that from life itself because you don’t win often if ever. Most people don’t.” Ricciardo emphasized that the highs feel great, however, it’s important to remember that the nature of the sport that F1 is wins and the highs are not consistent.

Ricciardo added, “Last year I was going through that and yes, I was letting it kind of control me as a person too much, but again, it’s like anything in life you live and you learn and I learned through that-that there is more than just me the F1 driver.”

Now that Ricciardo is an official part of the Red Bull family; Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko once shed light on their decision to pick Daniel Ricciardo for the role of the reserve driver for Red Bull.

Daniel Ricciardo was the only go-to choice for Red Bull, exclaimed Helmut Marko

Many speculations suggested that Mick Schumacher was in the running for being considered for the Austrian team’s reserve driver role. However, team advisor, Helmut Marko, debunks all such claims. He reiterated that Ricciardo was their choice all along.

In regards to Mick, Marko shared in an interview with ‘Sport Bild’, saying, ‘No. He has always been part of the Ferrari programme and is therefore not interesting for us. Especially since our reserve driver competes a lot in sponsor events in America. Ricciardo, with his profile and image, is, therefore, the best driver for us.”
