Sergio Perez is in dire straits. After his release from Racing Point, the Mexican hasn’t been able to procure a new contract for 2021. Although there had been a rumor of McLaren offering him a seat at McLaren’s Indycar format, Perez would likely keep it as a last resort.

The driver hopes to get his hand on something by the end of the year to keep him on the grid.

Although there have been some wild speculations at Checo’s fate, none have been effective. After a hint towards Haas, Steiner denied that it was a direct choice for them. The US team definitely gives it a thought, but that isn’t the end. However, McLaren boss Zak Brown is optimistic about Perez in F1.

Brown believes Checo to be an excellent driver. Therefore, he cannot imagine him out of F1. While in conversation on the ‘Beyond The Grid‘ podcast, he highlighted the Mexican’s future in F1.

“My guess is he will end up in Formula 1. I think Haas is certainly due for a driver change. Checo and Hulkenberg showed his talents once again in Silverstone. Who knows what’s happening with Kimi, who knows what is happening with both Haas drivers.”

Honestly, Haas needs two drivers. Though they look forward to launching new faces, they will have to keep an eye out for the effectiveness. In a situation where they are used to being the tail-enders, would they want to risk it with young blood or take a more experienced way further?

Further on, Raikkonen’s career may end in 2020. The driver, in his early forties, will consider that option sometime or the other. And perhaps it is better to leave on a high. So, with so many probable seats, it is unlikely for Perez to not be seen for the in the paddock come 2021.

“I would think Checo and Nico have to be one in two on anyone’s list if you are looking for a driver. So I would be surprised if Checo wouldn’t stay in F1,” remarked the McLaren head man.

Brown says returning to F1 will be hard for Perez

However, considering the worst, Tom Clarke, the host, asked him about the improbable. “If he [Sergio Perez] goes to Indycar in 21, would it then be very difficult to come back?”  

“I think at his age, not that he’s old, he’s 30. I think once you kinda check out of F1 it is hard to come back. Not impossible, but hard.” replied the F1 enthusiast from California.”

Sergio Perez has the sympathy of the grid; however, he has the confidence of the grid as well. It is just a matter of time before he gets his new team and bounces back. Or are we in for another story altogether?
