Fall Guys is the latest addition to the list of battle royale games currently available. But unlike others, this one does not feature guns or violence of any kind. Well, if you consider cute, cuddly characters crashing into each other and tumbling down as violence, then maybe, yes. But this game has managed to outshine so many others that it’s almost unreal.

The game was released on August 4 2020. In the launch trailer, it had close to 500K concurrent viewers on Twitch. For a game that takes inspiration from the battle royale genre and turns it into something else entirely, it is a commendable achievement. The game looks like a blend of popular game shows like Wipeout and Takeshi’s Castle. Don’t believe us? Take a look at the trailer below and you’ll find out.

Exciting, right? Whenever you hear ‘battle royale’, you always think of ways to take out your opponents, strategize your drop location, and a lot of other things. And then here comes this game that has none of it (For now, at least. Pretty sure we’ll have a video about it soon), and is still insanely fun.

The game’s description reads,

“Survive a series of bizarre challenges until one victor remains in this colourful 100-person online multiplayer game. Test your mettle in brutal free-for-alls or co-op challenges where only the winning team advances to the next round. Bend, bounce and bash your way through hilarious physics-based obstacles, from smashing through doors, to riding a massive skateboard to racing up mountains riddled with traps. Add a touch of style to your Fall Guy by customising them with everything from classy pineapple couture to the latest in bunny hats.”

Fall Guys becomes a bestseller

Now, this is the kind of game we were looking for. Something familiar yet completely out of the box. As of now, Fall Guys is the No. 1 best-seller on Steam. It has managed to beat the likes of Horizon: Zero Dawn and Obsidian’s ‘Grounded.’

The game already had around 121,000 concurrent players and is well on its way to beat that number. Devolver Digital, the game’s developer, obviously did not predict such a response from the players. As a result, the game already has server issues.

That is not all. With great popularity, comes great vulnerability to hackers. It’s been six days since the game was launched and it already has ‘speed hackers.’

Thankfully, the developers have identified them and are working to keep them off the servers.

For now, Fall Guys is only available for PC and PS4. It definitely brings a breath of fresh air to the battle royale genre and it looks destined for greater things in the future.
