Teenage prodigy Ansu Fati and Barcelona agree to a two-year contract extension. The new contract, which will run until June 2022, will see his buyout clause raising from 100 to 170 million Euros.

The club also said that the buyout clause will be increased to a mammoth 400 million euros when the player signs a pro contract as full-time member of the Barça first team.

Fati, 17, had joined La Masia- the Barcelona youth club- in  2012 at the age of 10. His rise to the team’s first team has been fascinating.

An injury to Lionel Messi gave Fati an opportunity early in the season, which he seemed to grab with both hands. In August, he became Barcelona’s youngest player to score a goal at the age of 16 years and 304 days.

He is also the youngest player to start a game at Camp Nou and appear in a Champions League game.

From the first day I have learned things from everyone. And they have also been there to support me through difficult times.”

Ansu Fati has so far appeared in 11 matches for Barcelona. Although he trains with the senior team on a regular basis, he is yet to be a full member of the squad. He vowed to keep training harder to make himself a regular member of the first team.

“Working every day with the best is a dream, and also a reward” he said. “From now onwards, what I have to do is keep working, even harder than ever, to keep getting chances and carryon on enjoying myself. The rest will come after.”
