Swiss maestro Roger Federer had set up a semifinal clash with giant-killing South Korean Hyeon Chung. Everyone had been anticipating an interesting clash between Federer and the man who felled Novak Djokovic. However, their hopes were cut short and the fairytale ended as Chung retired from the second set. He was already trailing by a set and by 5 games to 2. In the end, it transpired that he had blisters on his left foot and Federer was through to the 2018 Australian Open final. Obviously, the youngster felt that it would be a hindrance and prevent him from giving his 100%. However, the spectators and social media had mixed reactions.
