Roger Federer will face the Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro in the finals of the Swiss indoors. Both Federer and Del Potro had relatively comfortable victories in their respective semifinals. Federer destroyed the Belgian David Goffin in straight sets (6-1, 6-2). A display of pinpoint serving and calculated aggressiveness, saw Federer reach his seventh final of the year. He will face the tower of Tandil, who dispatched the second seed Marin Cilic in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Cilic is currently ranked a career best No.4. But he never found his range in the match. He made too many too many unforced errors, and never looked to be in his comfort zone.

Both Federer and Del Potro know each other pretty well, having played each other 23 times. Federer leads their head to head 17-6, but Del Potro is a tough customer. The Argentine knocked out Federer out of the US open earlier this year. Federer said “I’m ready for a difficult match and a fully fit del Potro. He played a great match against me in Shanghai and went on to win Stockholm and won that. Now he’s here in the final again. I think he’s ok. He might be tired, but he doesn’t have issues that would keep him away from the court.”

Del Potro will not just be against Federer, but also an arena filled with Swiss supporters. However, Del Potro is no amateur to the atmospshere, having beaten Federer twice here in the finals. “For me it’s going to be a great challenge and also a great pleasure to play against Roger again in his hometown,” Del Potro said. “It will be a great atmosphere, and I will enjoy it a lot.”

The Argentine will secure a spot in the Nitto ATP Finals if he wins tomorrow. Federer, meanwhile will keep his hopes of finishing the year at the top alive with a title here.
