Roger Federer defeated Rafael Nadal at the Shanghai Masters on Sunday. With this victory, he is now less than 2,000 points behind Nadal in the ATP rankings. Federer is likely to play in Basel and Paris before the ATP finals in London. However, the Swiss ace himself has admitted that he is unsure of reaching No. 1.

Roger Federer said “All I know is the World Tour Finals is a must, probably Paris too and Basel too so that all depends on how Rafa plays. It’s a wild thought and that’s why I’m not thinking about it at this point. I was thinking about it going into the Montreal finals, Cincinnati and the US Open but it didn’t quite work out like I was hoping – so no problem there. I’ll try to be healthy now, we’ll go back to the drawing board in Switzerland and my team will work out what I’m going to play – Basel, Paris, one of those tournaments or both – before I head to London.”
