‘Feel Like it’s Meant to Be’- Colts HC Frank Reich Eager to Work with Carson Wentz

Experienced NFL quarterback Carson Wentz endured a tough outing in the league with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020. The 28-year-old reportedly had a fallout with former coach Doug Pederson towards the end of the season.
As a result, Wentz was dropped in favor of rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts for the final 2 games of the regular season.
In his final season with the Eagles, Wentz featured in 12 games. He could only manage a 3-8-1 record, throwing for 2,620 yards with 16 passing touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

After a long and arduous wait, Carson Wentz was allowed to move out of Philly in order to reunite with former coach Frank Reich in Indianapolis. But only time will tell how that experiment pans out for both parties involved.

After the retirement of veteran NFL quarterback Philip Rivers, AFC South franchise Indianapolis Colts’ were on the hunt for a franchise quarterback. They got their man in the form of Carson Wentz and coach Reich could not have been more delighted with this signing.
He said, “There’s no doubt [GM] Chris [Ballard] and I talked about that, and Mr. [Jim] Irsay, the three of us have talked about that together. That’s what you shoot for. So that’s the vision.

“When Andrew retired, we were looking for that long-term vision, what’s the next answer? First, was it going to be Jacoby [Brissett]? Jacoby did a nice job, and ultimately as highly as we thought about Jacoby, we didn’t feel like that was the long-term answer.
“And then, obviously, Philip [Rivers] was a great answer, but just the short answer. And then he retired.

“Was it going to be a draft pick? Honestly, I think Chris and I were thinking, somehow we were going to figure out how we were going to be able to draft the quarterback of our future.
“And then this thing came with Carson and it fell into our laps. And that’s the great thing about it, when it works that way, it almost makes you feel like it’s more meant to be because you can’t make this stuff up and you can’t manufacture it,” Reich said earlier this week.
Wentz arrived in Indy in exchange for a 2021 3rd-round pick and a 2022 conditional 2nd-round pick. This was a smart gamble for the Colts, who were desperate to replace the outgoing Rivers.

In 68 NFL starts, Wentz boasts of a record of 35-32-1. Carson has thrown for 16,811 passing yards and 113 passing TDs over the course of the last 5 years. But can he replicate the same form that he showed in 2019 for the Colts?
