2020 has certainly etched its place as an unforgettable year in world history. For tennis, the pandemic-ridden season has been hands down the toughest of all. From playing in empty courts to staying under two-week strict quarantine before every tournament, many players suffered a dip in performance. Recently, the Greek professional Stefanos Tsitsipas opened up about his journey through isolation and bubbles.

“To me, it felt very dark. I’m not a person who sees that dark side of things, but this whole thing was very difficult to handle,” said World No. 6, Tsitsipas. Unable to defend his title in London, Stefanos lost to Rafael Nadal in the Group Stage of the ATP Finals.

It must be exhausting to maintain control when your entire routine is spiralled out. As a result, few players are opting out of the next season, presuming the situation remains the same. But, most of them, such as Tsitsipas, are making the most of the given situation.

Tsitsipas said, “To be honest with you, and I’m very happy that I didn’t break down, and I’m sure if you ask other players, they are going to respond the same way.”

The final tournament of 2020 is unfortunately over for the highest-ranked Greek professional. Although he couldn’t win, Tsitsipas delivered strong back-to-back performances and shows no sign of stopping anytime soon.

“I will try and forget the negatives, because who needs negativity in this world? Just looking at the bright side of it. Trying to get to the end of the tunnel and see something better in the near future,” said Stefanos.
