Formula One has not seen the last of Eric Boullier inspite of his sacking from McLaren. The former McLaren ad Lotus F1 racing director has taken up a role with the organiser of the French Grand Prix.

Boullier left the British marquee in 2018 due to a management reshuffle. The restructuring was a response to yet another year of disappointment for the British squad.

But now, the Frenchman will return to an F1-related role in 2019. Boullier will take up the role of a ‘strategic advisor’ and ‘global ambassador’ with the French GP. The news was confirmed in a statement from the French Grand Prix organiser.

“During his 20 years in the sport, he has been a driving force in the development of every team he has worked with,” praised French GP president Christian Estrosi.

“Eric has advanced technical and sporting knowledge, a unique experience, and I have already benefited greatly from his advice and expertise during our working group for the return of the French Grand Prix.”

Boullier admitted to a feeling of pride to be working for his home race. The French Grand Prix made a return to the F1 calendar in 2018 breaking a ten-year hiatus.

Boullier took over as team principal of Renault in 2010 and led the team to 5th in the championship. He stayed on as team boss even after Renault pulled out and Lotus took their place. Finally in 2014, he became the McLaren racing director and stayed with the team until he was ousted.
