The 2020 Formula One season has yet to begin, but there are a number of predictions being thrown out before a wheel has eve touched the tarmac. According to former F1 driver Mark Webber, Lewis Hamilton will wrap up his 7th world championship and equal Michael Schumacher’s record. However, he also suggested that Scuderia Ferrari will beat Mercedes to the Constructors’ Championship.

Last year, Mercedes ran rampant and Hamilton seized his sixth world title and the team added another Constructors’ trophy to their cabinet. However, the former Red Bull driver thinks that 2020 will be Ferrari’s turn at the top of the championship, ending a near-decade-long wait.

It was also noteworthy that Mercedes’ dominance was helped by a sub-par start to Ferrari’s season, which only picked up towards the end of the year.

While Charles Leclerc’s talent and the pace was undeniable, he lacked consistency in his race results. Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel had a forgettable campaign and ended the year in 5th, the lowest that he has ever finished since the 2014 season.

The German driver shot himself in both feet with far too many individual errors, and strategic mistakes from Ferrari didn’t help matters either.

Mark Webber talks about what 2020 holds for Ferrari

2020 will offer Scuderia Ferrari a blank sheet and new opportunities to get their act together, according to Mark Webber. Speaking to Formule 1, the Australian said: “At least Charles Leclerc and Sebastian Vettel can score regularly. For the Constructors’ Championship, Ferrari may look good, although I think Lewis will still show his superiority in the driver classification over a whole season.”

On a parting note, he suggested that Leclerc needs to find some consistency while Vettel needs to show a massive improvement in order for rivals to take Ferrari seriously as a title threat.
