Former South Africa all-rounder Lance Klusener Named as the Head Coach of Afghanistan

Former South Africa all-rounder Lance Klusener has been named as the new Head Coach of Afghanistan. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) invited applications for the position following the tenure of former Head Coach Phil Simmons. They have received over 50 applications from candidates which included Klusener’s.

Lance Klusener is a Level 4 certified coach and has associated with the Mumbai Indians as the bowling coach in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Apart from this, he was associated with a couple of other places as well.

He was a consultant to the South Africa National Academy as well as batting coach of the South Africa Test team. In addition to that, he was Head Coach of the Dolphins franchisee in South African domestic cricket. Klusener was also the batting coach of Zimbabwe and most recently, batting coach of the South Africa T20I team as well.

Lutfullah Stanikzai, the CEO of Afghanistan Cricket Board said that the process was done successfully that concluded the appointment of Klusener. He expects that Klusener’s inclusion will help the Rashid Khan-led team in the upcoming T20 World Cup too.

“Lance Klusener is a renowned name in the cricketing world. It will be great to see our players benefit from his vast experience both as a player and a coach.” Mr. Stanikzai expressed.

Klusener, on the other hand, expressed his excitement. He is confident that Afghanistan will become one of the best teams in the coming years. The former South Africa player will take the responsibility of his role ahead of the series against West Indies in November.

“I am extremely excited and honored to be given the opportunity to work with some of the best talent in world cricket. Everyone knows the fearless brand of cricket Afghanistan play. I am very confident that with some hard work we can become one of the best sides in the world. I am really looking forward to working with the Afghanistan team and helping them take their cricket to the next level,” Lance Klusener concluded.
