Despite releasing over three years ago, Fortnite is still one of the biggest games in the world, primarily because of its constantly evolving meta. Following a similar approach, Chapter 2 Season 5 of Fortnite introduced 40 new ‘non-player characters’ to the game. From quests and bounties to weapon upgrades, these NPCs offer a lot. A majority of them are friendly, but some, like the IO guards, pose difficulties for anyone who faces them.

In a recent tweet, popular YouTuber Lachlan claimed that the IO Guards are the “worst thing” in Fortnite right now:

Surprisingly, Lachlan soon explained that his tweet was merely an overreaction. The IO Guards cost him a good clip while recording, and this frustrated the Fortnite veteran.

He further clarified that the IO Guards are a lot better than the B.R.U.T.E. mechs:

As expected, Lachlan’s tweets sparked a debate between his fans. Both IO Guards and B.R.U.T.E. mechs have troubled the Fortnite community ever since their arrival, and everyone has their own reasons to dislike one NPC more than the other.

Back in Season X, Fortnite had introduced B.RU.T.E mechs to make the battle royale more exciting. However, the decision worked against the developers as players complained about them being severely overpowered. These machines dealt explosive damage and boasted a massive HP. Furthermore, they could easily take down structures with their rockets.

On the flip side, IO Guards spawn in groups of 3 with tactical assault rifles and just like the mechs, they have a tremendous amount of health. To make things worse, they have infinite ammo and can shoot accurately even from a far-off distance.

According to some players, the IO Guards alter their accuracy based on the stats of the players. They miss more shots when targeting new players; however, experienced players have to face IO Guards that shoot at almost 100% accuracy. This might explain the community’s divide on the matter.
