Williams F1 driver George Russell has been languishing at the back for the past two races. This situation will likely not change for the remainder of the season as the Williams F1 car is just that bad.

However, during the post Bahrain GP 2019 test, Russell got a chance to hop into the Mercedes. With the W10 under him, he was able to unleash his full potential and topped the F1 timesheets for the first time in his career.

His lap time of 1:29.029 was the quickest of both testing days combined. In addition to that, he also clocked in more than 100 laps.

Meanwhile, Nicholas Latifi in Russell’s current team, was three seconds off the pace, rather embarrassingly.

Propping up the grid was Racing Point’s Sergio Perez, who was one of the drivers who suffered during the race.

Sebastian Vettel took over the reins from Mick Schumacher and galloped up to 3rd with Carlos Sainz Jr in 4th for McLaren. Mick Schumacher himself split the Toro Rossos with Daniil Kvyat in 5th and Alexander Albon in 7th.

Apparently, George Russell was one of four British drivers on the grid for testing. The others were, Lando Norris, Daniel Ticktum and Jack Aitken. Of them, Ticktum had bragging rights as the second highest Briton, with 9th. Lance Stroll completed the top 10 ahead of Romain Grosjean and Pietro Fittipaldi, with Fernando Alonso splitting the Haas duo.

Norris, Aitken and Latifi propped up the rear along with Carlos Sainz, who was testing for Pirelli.

Sainz’s time, although the slowest, was not really a representative time due to his Pirelli commitment.

The Formula One 2019 season will resume in China on the 12th of April as the sport continues its Asian leg. Hopefully, George Russell and Kubica manage to see out the 2019 season and somehow manage to develop the car properly.
