“Going 9–5”: Venus Williams Opens Up on Current Training Routine

Former World No. 1 Venus Williams has contributed vastly to the women’s game and has a decorated career that not many players have enjoyed. She is one of the few players that has held the number one rankings in both singles and doubles. The American star won three gold medals at the Olympic Games, comprising one in singles and three in doubles.
Recently, Venus Williams was on a podcast with American professional makeup artist Bobbi Brown. They spoke on various topics covering fashion and tennis. However, one of the interesting subjects was the 40-year-old player’s current training routine.
Venus Williams: “My training is split between the court and gym”

The five-time Wimbledon champion stated, “Nowadays I give myself 4-5 good hours of training. It’s split between the court and the gym. I do some more time with the physio. So I’m basically going 9 to 5, just a little bit of a different way… I hate being indoors. So even at the office, I got to walk outside every couple of hours or so.”
Reflecting on Williams’ current season, she played at the Yarra Valley Classic at the beginning of the season. Her defeat came in the Round of 32 matches, in which she lost to Petra Kvitova in two close-fought sets.

After that, Venus competed at the season’s first Grand Slam event, the Australian Open. Unfortunately, she lost in the second round to Italian tennis player Sara Errani in an unconvincing manner and managed to win only one game in the entire match.
In recent years, the American player struggled with her form, and it shows in her results. In 2017, she had a successful season by reaching the final of the Australian Open and the Wimbledon Championships.
