The PGA Tour returns after its month-long break since the QBE Shootout last year. The first event of the year, the Sentry Tournament of Champions, began on Thursday this week in Kapalua, Maui. With an incredibly strong field and even higher stakes, the event is sure to please the fans who have eagerly awaited the tour’s return.
Featuring 17 of the top 20 world rankings as per the OWGR, the even promises entertainment and intense competition to the viewers over the four days that it is being played.
Who are some of the players in the competitive field of the event?

The event sees 39 players competing for the title and the perks that come with it. The tournament is currently underway at Kapalua’s Plantation Course on the Hawaiian island of Maui. The course is a par-73 and usually sees players finish with considerably low scores.

Among the 39 players, after the likes of Jon Rahm and Justin Thomas. The defending champion, Cameron Smith, has since jumped over to the other side and is banned from playing on any of the tour events. Rahm was last year’s runner-up and will undoubtedly be looking forward to claiming the title this year.
After the first round, tied for first atop the scoreboard are Collin Morikawa, J.J. Spaun, and Jon Rahm. With three more intense rounds left, it’s still anyone’s game. Despite the 7600-yard course length, the three players ended the round at 64. The fans can expect just as much excitement from the three days to follow.
The winner’s payout at the Sentry Tournament of Champions
The Sentry T.O. saw its total prize money almost double from last season. As an elevated event on the Tour this season, its total purse stands at 15 million as opposed to 8.2 million last year. The winner will receive a whopping 2.7 million, a huge step up from last season’s 1.476 million.
The tournament is the Tour’s first-ever elevated event and is also a limited event, which means only winners from 2022 and the qualified players from the 2022 Tour Championship can participate.
