Worldwide, golf is a popular sport for betting. Not only are there tours from all across the world included, but multiple international players are also a part of those various tours. Of course, PGA Tour players like Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka have their own take on betting.

However, the highlight of Koepka’s story was his bet against Phil Mickelson. By some twist of fate, the four-time major winner lost that bet, and that too, without any money on hand. “I once played against Phil [Mickelson] with no money in my pocket. That was at Muirfield in 2013 – and we lost,” Koepka said.

The event he is talking about is the 2013 Open Championship that took place at the Muirfield Golf Links in Gullane, Scotland. Interestingly, Mickelson won that particular tournament. Koepka missed the cut.

His first major win would come only in 2017 with the US Open, followed by the US Open and PGA Championship again in 2018. The last major tournament he won was the PGA Championship in 2019.

Did Koepka ever get paid for his bet?

Another gambling memory of Koepka’s was him playing at Chambers Bay. He was ‘probably’ 80 yards away when he looked at his caddie and ended up making a bet. Koepka’s next shot was impressive as it went straight in on the very first try. “Yeah, first try. Just went right in,” he recounted. “I still haven’t seen the money. Still haven’t gotten paid. I’ll be alright, though”.
