Earlier this year, Tiger Woods called out Greg Norman very publicly. He said, that ‘the shark’ needed to be dropped as LIV Golf’s CEO. The 15-time major winner was adamant that nothing could continue unless Norman was out of the picture. The way Woods went after Norman felt personal to many fans and the public. It seemed as though there were tons of pre-existing enmity between the two. But as Norman once confirmed, that could not have been the case because the two were strangers.

Norman and Woods had played together only a few times and hardly ever had a real conversation. But that wasn’t due to the lack of shark efforts. Woods simply avoided him.

Greg Norman craves a sit-down with Tiger Woods

In an interview in 2020, Greg Norman revealed that there was no way any animosity could stem between the two because they barely knew each other. The shark stated, “I just don’t know the guy, you know? It’s just crazy.”

The Australian golfer added that he and Woods had a lot in common, and if they ever got to talking, it may prove to be fascinating. He said, “It would be interesting if it ever happened to just sit down and have a chat with him.”

But Norman had no hope for that. He knew it was close to impossible and said, “Anyway, it’s probably never going to happen.” The shark had been trying to befriend Woods for far too long and had understood through Woods’ actions that there was no chance of them being friends.

Woods always snapped Norman’s olive branches in half

In comparison to Woods’ golf career, Norman’s is nothing but a drop in the ocean, and the shark knew that. But he had no resentment toward Woods, only respect. He once even drove all the way to the American’s house, in 2019, to deliver a handwritten letter congratulating him for his 15th major win.

But much like all of Norman’s other letters to Woods over the years, he didn’t hear back. The shark was baffled by why Woods avoided him. He had no ill will toward him and frequently expressed admiration for the golf champion. He once said, “I was extremely impressed with him; I have been impressed with his career.”

But Norman added that all the opinions were from an outsider’s point of view because he didn’t know Woods at all. He said, “I answer the questions (about Woods) the only way I can answer them: I don’t know the guy.”
