Despite Making the Rankings, Will LIV Golfers Actually Receive the PIP Money?

LIV Golf has been in the news ever since it was launched by former professional golfer Greg Norman. The Saudi-backed league focused on getting in players from the PGA Tour by offering them huge monetary deals. However, despite making it to the big contracts, the players are suffering from several setbacks for their decision to leave the PGA Tour. And a major one of them is having access to OWGR points. Moreover, this is also impacting their rights over the PIP money due to their decision of joining LIV Golf.

Will LIV Golf rebels earn the PIP bonus this year?

Players who shifted to the LIV Golf league after leaving the PGA Tour are starting to realize what was wrong with their decision. The golfers were well aware of the consequences they would have to face if they joined the new league. However, Norman constantly motivated them and assured them that they would receive everything under his league. But as of now, LIV players are facing some huge setbacks as a result of their career choices.

The PIP Money list is out now and contains the list of the players who will earn bonuses out of the $100 million pool. And as expected, none of these players belong to the Saudi-funded league. In fact, all these players are PGA Tour loyalists. It was expected to be this way since the Player Impact Program is intended to “generate the most positive interest in the PGA Tour.” And since LIV Golf is currently the biggest rival for the former tour, it is not wrong for the tour to reward only its most important members.

‘Who Cares’: Golf World Fumes Over LIV Golf’s Latest Upcoming Season Announcement

The total sum of $100 million was distributed among 20 professionals. And to everyone’s surprise, despite having a bad year, Tiger Woods was on top of the list earning the maximum bonus. But players like Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, and Bryson DeChambeau, who were there in the inaugural list, are nowhere to be found among the PGA Tour pros. This means that the LIV Golf players are not going to receive anything out of the PIP bonus.

Players in the list of top 20 include Woods, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler, etc. While Woods earned $15 million out of the total amount, the list goes on to the share of $2 million for spots 16-20.
