In his response, McIlroy said, “Yeah, so when you look at two different fields, you’ve got a 50-man field here versus a 144-man field there…So just in terms of how the strengths of the field are calculated, they have 90 more players to contribute to their strength of the field.”
According to his logic, the players in the RSM Classic have to beat 139 players to win the tournament. Whereas, the winner of DP World Tour’s flagship event will have to beat “49 other guys”.

McIlroy showed support towards the new OWGR system
During his conversation, McIlroy talked about how the new system had affected golfers and tours. “Has it upset people? Yes,” he said. “Because people have been used to getting a certain amount of World Ranking points in one event and now it’s dropped. But I would say those events were getting more than they should be.”
In fact, he extended his support towards the new system and said, “I think it’s the fairest system that you can come up with right now…A lot has gone into it. It’s the best one that we can come up with right now, and I think it will take a while.” According to the golfer, the new system was not derived overnight. Rather, it took five years of algorithms for the officials to make it work. However, McIlroy assured the players and tours that it would take some time for people to adapt to it. But it is definitely one of the best things to happen with OWGR points.
