Ever since his debut in 1996, Tiger Woods has been identified for various reasons. One of which is being the face of Nike Golf. Having the Nike Swoosh on his outfit, Woods has been one of the biggest possession of the American apparel giant.

Walking down memory lane, the association between Nike and Woods dates back to the year 1996. Leaving a lasting impression with his incredible performances in the amateur tournaments, Woods became a Nike-sponsored player even before his pro debut. As per reports, the first contract between Woods and Nike was a 5-year deal worth $40 million. 26 years later, how much is Tiger Woods worth to Nike today?

The monumental history of Nike and Tiger Woods

Woods started his career with a $40 million contract for Nike. However, five years seemed sufficiently enough for the American sensation to prove to Nike that he is worth much more.

5 majors, 19 tour tiles, top spot in World rankings, 3 PGA Tour player of the year awards, and 3 PGA Player of the year awards later, it was in 2001 that Woods and Nike renewed their partnership. Even though the two agreed on the same 5-year span, the success of Woods had now taken the deal to a whopping $100 million.

Walking on his own-defined path of success, Woods went on to pursue his aim of becoming the greatest player of all time. Five years later, it was in 2006 that Woods and Nike signed their third contract. Goes without saying, ten years seemed a considerable time for Nike to put Woods on the list of their biggest assets.

The result? Unlike the previous two contracts, the third contract between the two was sealed for a period of seven years, ending in 2013.

The latest association of the two giants

The year 2013 is often referred to by many as the biggest year of their association. In July 2013, the then Nike golf president, Cindy Davis, released a statement confirming the renewal of their association with Nike.

“We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Tiger. He is one of Nike’s most iconic athletes and has played an integral part in Nike Golf’s growth since the very beginning,” she said.

As per reports, the fourth contract between Nike and Woods was signed for a massive $200 million. An amount that prompted Woods’s manager to assert that Woods would continue to remain with Nike for the rest of his career. “We’re comfortable with where we ended up and the career trajectory that Tiger will be on with Nike,” he said.

A bond not just about T-shirts and shoes

Woods has had numerous ups and downs in his personal as well as professional life. Widening the room for discussion, apart from Nike, Woods has also been a part of numerous other sponsorship deals in his 26-year-long career. However, giving a glimpse at the unfortunate part, many of these sponsors have taken a back seat when Woods’ career was going through a rough patch.

On the contrary, Nike has made sure to stick with Woods through thick and thin. A gesture, that has given the greatest golfer of all time all the more reason to stay bonded with the apparel giant.

Over the years, Woods hasn’t just contributed to Nike by showing up on the golf course with their apparel. In addition to that, he has also taken up the responsibility to be one of their most prominent global brand ambassadors. The former World No. 1 has been a part of Nike’s most successful advertisement campaigns over the years.

Giving back in the same way, in 2019, Nike released a video celebrating the 15th major win of Tiger woods.
