The PNC Championship was the father-son unofficial tournament that helped a lot of young players showcase their skills in front of the golf world. John Daly II is the most prominent among them to impress the senior players and other spectators as he won the 2021 edition of the event with his 2-time major champion father.

The Daly pair defeated the golf legend Tiger Woods and his son in the competition last year. Since it is not an easy task to win against the golf legend, the young golfer was appreciated worldwide for his efforts. Although Little John played almost flawless golf in the 2021 PNC Championship, his path to becoming one was never easy.

His son’s first tournament made John Daly worry

“First tournament… he had a really bad day.” Little John could only chuckle when Daly sr. explained how his son played in his first-ever competition. “I don’t know what he (Daly jr.) shot. It wasn’t pretty,” the 1991 PGA Championship winner revealed.

It has been more than 30 years since John Daly started playing golf, and the sport has become his life. Therefore, it worried him when he saw his son struggling to hit decent shots in his first tournament. The 1995 British Open champion said, “I was scared that he’s gonna like say, ‘okay, I’m done with golf.'”

“Dad, I need to work on my form,” Daly explained he felt ecstatic and exclaimed, “yes, he’s hooked,” when his son mouthed those words instead of quitting the sport altogether.

2021 was the Daly duo’s 6th time appearing in the PNC Championship, and the young golfer’s shots showed how hard he worked. His team scored 27-under 117 in the 36-hole competition and defeated Tiger Woods and his son Charlie Woods with a 2-shot lead.
