John Daly has been setting records in the golf world for years. The 56-year-old golfer has no impact of age on his high spirits. Daly is also one of the most honest people in the sports industry. He has been speaking about his life struggles as well as his undying bad habits since his first interview.

He recently gave his take on how qualified he is to be a role model for young golfers and his son.

John Daly got candid about being a role model

Daly has made tons of records on the field. However, for him to be a role model for his son John Daly II, is not what he wants. Daly has done very well on the field, but he regrets all his negative habits outside the course. The golfer has admitted several times that his drinking problem has caused him enough trouble. Yet, the player can’t give up his habit even after multiple attempts.

He once pointed out how despite all his golf success, he can never be a role model for his son. “If you look at me as a role model, if you do the opposite of John Daly, you’re going to do really well in life,” Daly said. He also stated in a podcast that his son is “an angel” and doesn’t drink or smoke. The golf ace mentioned that he never wanted his son to follow him in his footsteps. “I told my son, Little John, you do the opposite of daddy you’re going to be great,” said Daly.

Daly opened up about his struggle to get rid of unhealthy habits

Daly updated his fans about his health and gave them a shock during the 2020 TimberTech Championship. The golfer said that there was no noticeable improvement in his bladder cancer, while he was trying his best to avoid smoking and sugar intake. Daly’s fans are aware of his habit of chugging several diet cokes at a time. He said“I mean, I’m just tired all the time. Just trying to drink the right stuff, but it’s hard to take diet coke away from me.

It is not easy to quit smoking, not at first. But for a man who smokes “a pack and half” per day, things need immediate improvement. “I only smoked six cigarettes today,” Daly said. The golfer never wants his son to turn out like him. Thankfully, Jr. Daly is only taking away his old man’s golfing skill as of now.
