The jury is out. District Judge Beth Labson Freeman has denied three suspended PGA Tour members who signed with LIV Golf, namely Talor Gooch, Matt Jones and Hudson Swafford, to participate in the FedEx Cup playoffs scheduled this month. The news brings both joy and relief for the PGA loyalists who abided by the Tour. Golfers such as Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas had their say regarding the decision, but the latter’s reference to the situation was unusual, to say the least.

“It was personal to me from the beginning,” Thomas said. “It’s kind of like I said from the start. Those guys were given an opportunity to go play and just go play. You can have your cake, but you don’t need to eat it, too. And they got their fair share of a large, large amount of cake, and go eat it on your own means. You don’t need to bring it onto our tour.”
While JT didn’t spit facts in his interview, he mentioned the feeling was ‘personal’. The 29-year-old has been a staunch supporter of the PGA Tour. Even though he admitted the contract offered by LIV is ‘astronomical money’, he has never discussed terms with the rebel series.
LIV Golf – a distraction to PGA Golfers
Speaking on the drama created by LIV Golf between the circuits, JT observed that it has been a distraction.“It’s unfortunately just taking up the golf world a little bit and taking away from great storylines,” Thomas said. “I think I saw Scottie [Scheffler] came in and did his interview [Tuesday], and I’m sure he got asked about what was going on, and he’s had one of the best seasons of all time.”
