To Thomas, it is frustrating that people have been saying the course set up and Kapalua was easy. “Look, I don’t know how many times I have to say it but if you give us soft greens and no wind, we are going to shoot nothing,” Thomas said before the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines.

He further explained that a little win on firm greens can result in a high score, while rain and no wind, with some soft green, give way for a lower score. “It’s not like the Tour’s setting up the course every day saying, ‘We want 18 under to win this week.’ Mother Nature ultimately has the final say in how challenging a course proves to be”.

While at the La Quinta Country Club in California for the American Express, Jon Rahm was caught criticizing the setup on camera. “Piece of sh*t f**king setup,” Rahm can be heard saying, adding that it was akin to a putting contest.
Having said that, Rahm, Thomas, and Dustin Johnson will be starting together at the Farmers Open. Thomas last played the Sentry Tournament of Champions, where he finished T5. Rahm came in second during the same but finished T14 at the American Express.
