‘I Can Tell You That’: Phil Mickelson Reveals His Future With LIV Golf Beyond 2022

Phil Mickelson is presently playing in London at the inaugural event of the LIV Golf Invitational Series. Since the league wouldn’t reveal the field list of the upcoming events until a week before it, the fans are unaware of how long the golfer will play at the event. 

“I’ll be playing all the LIV events,” Mickelson answered. The golfer revealed his plans with LIV Golf in the press meet after day 1 in London. “I’ll be participating in all the LIV events,” the golfer assured the golf world.

According to Mickelson, he will play all the eight events in the league up until October 30 at Miami. However, there is no certainty whether he will play in any other events from the LIV Golf this season. “I’m going to play the ten next year,” the 2021 PGA Championship winner stated. “I can tell you that.” 

Notably, the golfer only answered questions about LIV Golf in the press meet. He avoided answering any questions from the reporters about the PGA Tour and his suspension.

The Tour suspended him and the other 16 Tour players that are playing in the LIV Golf league. All the 17 of them and the others, who intend to play in the future LIV events, will be ineligible to play in the PGA Tour or any other tours it sanctions. 

10 players, including Dustin Johnson and Sergio Garcia, resigned from the Tour before playing in the league. According to the Commissioner of the Tour, they will be removed from the FedEx Cup points standings after this week. They also cannot play in any PGA events as a non-member being sponsor exemptions.

Mickelson and the 47 players have been competing in the inaugural event of the LIV Golf Series in London since June 9. After two rounds, the 6-time major winner is tied for the 26th position with the other five players.

Phil Mickelson had scored an impressive 69 at the end of day 1. However, he couldn’t maintain his form on the second day, as he scored 75, making an overall 4-over par after two rounds. Notably, the last time Mickelson competed in a tournament was at the 2022 Saudi International in the February first week. The LIV Golf event was the very first tournament he has appeared in since February.
