Annika Sorenstam is no stranger to the golf community. A sheer champion, her achievements on course qualify her as a legend of the game. And just as game recognizes game, she once had a moment when she admired another golfer. In what was one of her favorite moments of him, Annika opened up on the GOAT of golf, Tiger Woods.

Even after all this time, Annika remembers when Woods used to play golf with her when she lived in Orlando. Not to mention, both the legends were World No. 1 at that time. She said, “What I remember most was that he loved trying difficult shots and always wanted to learn something new.” 

“He was especially interested to know how I hit the ball so straight without sacrificing length, especially off the tee,” added Annika. She explained that he was always curious about new things and wanted to learn them. Even though Woods was still a champion, he was interested in her techniques.

She further added, “He was just really curious, always trying to get better. I admire that.” 

Annika Sorenstam beat Tiger Woods! 

Woods is getting inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame this year. He is receiving the honor in the male competitor category. Notably, late Marion Hollins, Susie Maxwell Berning, and Tim Finchem will also be honored with the Hall of Fame along with Woods. The ceremony was supposed to be conducted in 2021; however, it had to be postponed due to the covid-19 pandemic.

Notably, Annika Sorenstam was honored with the Hall of Fame induction in 2003. Although it is not a competition, the women’s champion did manage to beat the GOAT of golf to it.

The legacy of Annika Sorenstam

The World Amateur Champion of 1992, Annika Sorenstam, turned pro the same year. She continued her best game as she won the Rookie of the Year Award in 1994. In 1995, she won her first LPGA career victory by winning the inaugural U.S. Women’s Open. Throughout her career, Sorenstam has won 90 championship titles, including ten majors worldwide.

Annika is also the second most decorated athlete in the history of ESPYs; she has received eight awards from the ESPYs and is the National Ambassador for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 

Sorenstam and Woods were world champions when they used to practice with each other. Despite being the best, Woods’ urge to learn new things is what the champion golfer admired the most about him.
