Gambling is not new in the sports world. People often place bets or put money on their favorite players. One such name is Steve Fezzik. However, things went south for him when he wagered on Purdue in that first-round matchup—especially on the money line. He suffered huge losses. But now he is betting against Tiger Woods. Fezzik strongly feels this will not be a good year for some fans of the pro golfer. Everyone is talking about it, but what went wrong for the gambler?

Why did the famed gambler bet against Tiger Woods winning Masters?

It costs -4500 odds (risk $4,500 to gain $100) to bet on the top-seeded Boilers to win simply as 23.5-point favorites. In tournament history, there had only ever been one other 1-vs-16 upset. The only person to win the NFL SuperContest in back-to-back years, renowned Vegas gambler, Steve Fezzik, is aware that there is no such thing as a lock. The well-known handicapper did, however, believe that Purdue had a better than 99.9% probability of winning the match.

He told ESPN.com it wassimple logic” for him to wager on a line indicating the Boilermakers were only 98.1 % to win. But this time, it cost him big bucks. Where the fans of the former number golfer are praying for his win, Fezzik is sure it won’t happen. He added, “I will continue to bet the 20-plus point favorites in the tournament, going forward, but will be much more active to get the best price. Further, I plan to bet Tiger [Woods] will lose the Masters, -6,000-ish,” according to him, there is “No way he wins 1 percent of the time.”

Most sportsbooks presently have the 15-time major champion ranked as 50-to-1 to win at Augusta next month. Fezzik may not have pleased his supporters with his candid assessment, but given the outcome of his Purdue wager, it may be a positive development for the 15-time major champion. He suffered a significant loss at Purdue but is confident in his wager against Woods. If he is incorrect, “they can put me in the Sports Betting Hall of Shame,” he remarked.

The most recent Tiger Woods Masters odds show that sportsbooks don’t have a lot of faith in Woods to win this competition. It’s difficult to disagree with them at this point in his career, but as we have repeatedly witnessed, Woods still puts forth strong performance after strong performance. This time around, however, things will be much different. According to Odds Checker, he probably won’t win the event, but this year’s Masters might mean more to the pro than previous years. It wouldn’t be unexpected if this was Woods’ final appearance at the Masters.

Woods did not appear at the Players Championship, and it was disheartening for the fans. Alan Shipnuck said his right foot was giving him some problems at Riviera. One can only think that he is not better enough to compete at another event. But we hope to see him at the Masters and prove Fezzik wrong.
