Of late, many golfers who’re part of the LIV Golf series, have suffered the consequences of playing there. From not being considered for the Ryder Cup, to not receiving any ranking points for when they play LIV Golf events, they’ve faced a lot of turmoil. And now, nearly a year after joining the other side, two-time green jacket winner, Bubba Watson, witnessed firsthand the fate that the rest of the defectors have suffered.

Bubba Watson pays the price for jumping ship

Earlier last year, Watson was one of the big names that jumped over to the other side. Similar to many others, the golf pro was paid an enormous sum when he shifted his allegiance. His contract was estimated to be worth over $50 million. And now it seems like he’s paying the price for that whopping offer.

On the 15th of January 2006, Watson first ascended to the top 200 world rankings as per the OWGR. And since then, he has never dropped out—until this week! Ending his 17+ year streak, the 2-time major winner saw his ranking drop to 201 on Monday this week, just like many other pros who’ve jumped ship.

Falling out of the top came as no surprise to the defector, considering he’d seen it happen to many of his Saudi-backed series colleagues. But perhaps seeing his huge streak come to an end did pinch just a little, despite having his $50 million to distract him from it.

Golf world boos Watson as his ranking takes a plunge

Soon after the 12-time PGA Tour winner fell off his pedestal this week, the news spread like wildfire. LIV Golf Latest posted the viral news on Twitter, attracting numerous fans who shared how they felt about it. And surprisingly, there were no words of empathy from the fans. In fact, many claimed that he should have dropped out much earlier.

Fans further lashed out at the 44-year-old, stating that he was old and unskilled and that he deserved what he had just received. They added that he didn’t have what it takes anymore to be called a top golfer.

Others in the golf world chimed in and said that the defector couldn’t care less about his ranking. After all, he had his $50 million to soften the blow for him.

Many also claimed to have renowned the golf great. With a chant of “Bubba who” they exclaimed their frustration at their beloved golf pro jumping to the dark side.
