Since February, Phil Mickelson had been on a sabbatical from competitive golf. After receiving severe backlash for his comments on the SGL and the PGA Tour, the 56-year-old took a break from the sport. Notably, he had also not been active on social media since his public apology on Twitter. But it seems like his time off ended yesterday.

The six-time major champion returned to social media after three long months. He was active on his official Twitter account for a brief period and apparently liked a comment made by one of his fans. The comment was made on a tweet from Clay Travis about the NBA staging games in the United Arab Emirates.

The Lefty fan commented in Phil’s defense and said, “Yet @PhilMickelson gets canceled…WTF.” However, now, it seems that he disliked the tweet as it does not appear in the likes section on his account.

Phil liking the tweet about the same may seem like a subtle statement made by the 51-year-old professional as he approaches closer to making his comeback at the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club. Not to forget, the latest field released by the golf course included both Phil and his professional rival, Tiger Woods.

However, his supposedly bold move may also be a show of support towards NBA games taking place in the UAE and that he supports their involvement in different sports. Not to forget, Mickelson is among the famous names to allege with the LIV Golf Invitational series, a rival tour funded by Saudi.

His recent action comes a day after the PGA Tour denied the players’ request for a release to play at the opening event of the LIV Golf Invitational Series.

Now, only time will tell if he chooses to play without the PGA’s approval. Not to mention, doing so may result in a suspension or also a permanent ban.

When did Phil Mickelson last play on the PGA Tour?

The American professional last played on the Tour at the 2022 Farmers Insurance Open. It took place at the challenging Torrey Pines Golf Course in January, early in the 2022 season. However, Phil did not have the finish he was expecting and missed the cut at the event. As a result, he could not make it to the weekend. Phil ended the event with an overall score of three-over-par and missed the cutline at two-under-par. Moreover, he carded a round of one-under-par, 71 on Friday.

His final round included four bogeys and two birdies on the opening nine holes. As a result, he moved out in two-over-par, 38. Mickelson made three birdies and six pars on the back but could not finish within the cutline.
