With a combination of raw talent and incredible work ethic, these two golfers have entertained fans for decades and inspired countless young players to take up the game. Despite their rivalry, the two are also friends and have a great deal of respect for each other. Or let’s say had a great deal of respect for each other.

Larry Mize does not approve of the LIV Tour

In a recent interview with golf today, the 1987 Masters winner expressed his feelings about the LIV Tour. “I’m not happy with the LIV tour. I don’t think it’s good for golf,” Mize said. 

The 64-year-old chose to disagree with Norman on the LIV Tour. “Greg is doing what he thinks is right. I would respectfully disagree with him,” he added.

The battle of 1987

Mize’s victory over the great white shark in the 1987 Masters is considered one of the biggest upsets in golfing history. In the sudden-death playoff, Norman, who had been leading the tournament for most of the day, hit his approach shot just off the green. 

Mize hit his 140 yards to within 15 feet of the hole. Moreover, on the next shot, Norman’s chip shot rolled by the hole and Mize calmly sank his birdie putt to win the tournament. The shot by Mize was significant not only because it secured him his first major championship, but also because it was a defining moment in his career. 

This victory also solidified Mize’s place in Master’s history. He will forever be remembered for that stunning shot. The 1987 Masters remains one of the most exciting editions in its long and storied history, and Mize’s victory over Norman will always be one of its most memorable moments.
