The golf world felt sad on Friday when Xander Schauffele walked off the golf course of the Sentry Tournament of Champions. His back injury became the reason for his bid to come to an end. The world’s number six golfer was hurting in Kapalua during the tournament. You might not be aware that the pro golfer went through the same pain at the Hero World Challenge last month. His injury has led him to withdraw his name from Wednesday Pro-Am.

The 2018 Open Championship winner sustained his back injury in the Bahamas. He explained that he takes a minute and a half rest between his workouts. However, he explained how it stiffens up and causes issues in facet joints. He said, “It’s not something that, like, jolts through. I just really stiffen up like a rope, and then it’s obviously, the facet is protecting itself, the facet joint.” The 2019 Master winner knew he wouldn’t be able to continue playing. Therefore, before finishing up his 27th hole, he informed event officials that he won’t be playing any further; because “It wasn’t getting better.”

Despite the pain, the golfer could not hold back his sense of humor.

The deadpan humor of Xander Schauffele

The golfer’s father talked to Sports Illustrated and explained why he withdrew from the Sentry tournament. According to him, fear was the reason, and he said, “Xander’s fear of maybe hurting it was the reason he withdrew.” It was not a good time for the pro, as he had to walk off in the middle of the tournament. However, he knows how to cool things down well, so he uses humor as an escape. He gave an interesting twist to his injury and said how things would have been.

Giving a hilarious WD explanation, he said“I try to exercise more, eat better, do everything better, and I should have just stayed fat and more mobile, I guess, and not worked out and tried to do all these good things and I would have been, like, a golfer from the early 90s.” He could not help himself and wondered what his healthy lifestyle did to him. It was the moment of the ultimate experience of irony for him. Despite exercising and eating right, he still had to suffer the pain.

And since he understood the hurtful irony game, he could not hold back another hilarious taunt to his injury. His wife has more tolerance for pain than him. Therefore, if anyone ever threatened to hurt him if he didn’t finish a tournament, the pro golfer would finish it only not to suffer pain. He said, “My wife would probably say she has a higher pain tolerance than me. But yeah, it’s manageable. If someone told me they were going to shoot me if I didn’t finish this tournament, I would finish this tournament.”
