Tiger Woods Ryder Cup Record: All You Need to Know About His Debut, Wins, and Total Appearances

Tiger Woods is undeniably one of the best golfers of all time. 15 major titles, 109 professional wins, 82 PGA Tour wins and innumerable records are in his name.

However, when you think of the Ryder Cup, Woods is not the first name that pops into your head. You might think of Phil Mickelson, Ian Poulter, Jack Nicklaus, or even Patrick Reed. However, Woods’ domination has not expanded to this list. Let’s take a look at his Ryder Cup record.

Tiger Woods – an impressive eight Ryder Cup appearances

Tiger Woods has appeared in a total of eight Ryder Cup tournaments spanning 21 years. This massive number is T-3 for the most appearances by an American with Phil Mickelson taking the first spot after playing in a whopping 12 editions.

Despite playing in eight editions, Woods has contributed to only one victory, in 1999. His overall record at the cup is 13-21-3, which is not very impressive considering his domination during those years. His best play was at Celtic Manor Resort in 2010, where he had three wins and one loss. On the contrary, his worst performance was at his latest appearance in 2018, where he suffered four straight losses.

Woods’ inability to deliver at the Ryder Cup

Woods first played at the biennial cup in 1997, a year after turning professional. Thereafter, he competed in four consecutive Ryder Cup tournaments and missed out on the 2008 Cup due to a knee injury. He came back in 2010 and 2012, still unable to deliver at the team event.

Tiger Woods last played the Ryder Cup in 2018, where he admitted that he significantly contributed to the USA’s crushing 17½ to 10½ defeat. He said, “I’m one of the contributing factors to why we lost the Cup, and it’s not a lot of fun.”

However, he still may return to the cup as a non-playing member. As of now, Woods is recovering from a terrible car accident that he suffered in February 2021. It will be interesting to see if Tiger Woods can play one more Ryder Cup before his retirement.
