Twitter Reacts to Sensational News About Women’s Golf

The 2022 female golf circuit moves to the Congressional Country Club for another major championship event of the calendar year. The 2022 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship will take place at the challenging and newly restored Blue Course. Moreover, the event has recently been in the limelight due to an incredible announcement LPGA made about the tournament yesterday.

LPGA announced that the total prize money purse for the third major championship event would be double from last year. Not to forget, the event will take place from June 23-26 and has some of the biggest names in golf teeing up at the challenging and demanding Congressional Country Club.

Among the famous names playing at the event is Nelly Korda, who recently finished in the runner-up position at the 2022 Meijer LPGA Classic last week. She ended the event with an overall score of 18-under-par.

Moreover, the prize money purse increased from $4.5 million in 2021 to $9 million in 2022. At the same time, the 2022 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship winner will take home a prize money share worth $1.35 million after the final round. There has been a 300 percent surge in the purse from 2014 when the reward was at $2.25 million.

Paul Knopp, KPMG US Chair and CEO also spoke about the surge in the prize money pool. She said, “The significantly increased purse size – along with top courses in major markets, network TV coverage, and advanced data and analytics capabilities provided via KPMG Performance Insights – are tangible examples of our commitment to elevate the world-class athletes on the LPGA Tour.” It will be interesting to see who will be able to win at the tough golf course, and at the same time, take home the incredible prize money purse.

As soon as the news about the colossal increase in prize money purse broke out, the golf Twitter exploded with reactions. Golf fans worldwide started to react to the positive news regarding the 2022 KPMG Wome’s PGA Championship. Most of the fans were happy about the delightful announcement. Who is the defending champion this week?

Nelly Korda is the defending champion this week. She won the major championship event in 2021. She played fine golf and hit some crisp iron shots during the event. Moreover, she ended the event with an overall score of 19-under-par. As a result, the World Number two won by a comfortable three-shot margin.

Korda shot a final round of four-under-par, 68 to finish on the top of the leaderboard. Her round of 68 included one bride and an eagle on the opening nine holes. As a result, the 23-year-old moved out in three-under-par, 33. She made one eagle, one birdie, and a bogey on the back nine to end her round.
