WATCH: Flagstick Agonizingly Denies Lexi Thompson a Hole-in-One at QBE Shootout

Lexi Thompson is currently in Naples, Florida, and is hitting some big shots. Playing the QBE Shootout alongside Bubba Watson, the pair is in action at the Tiburón Golf Club at The Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort.

The QBE Shootout is an unofficial money PGA Tour event that is played annually at the end of the season. The three-day team event is currently underway and will go on until Sunday. After the opening day, however, the highlight for us was Lexi Thompson’s near ace spectacular shot.

The 12-team field includes many prominent players, including defending champions Harris English and Matt Kuchar. Further, Sam Burns and Billy Horschel, Jason Kokrak and Kevin Na, Ian Poulter and Charles Howell III, Kevin Kisner and Max Homa are some of the others teeing it up.

Lexi Thompson hits a near-ace

On the 234-par 5th hole, Lexi hit a bomb off the tee with a 3-wood. Up into the air it went, as everyone looked on. It bounced once on the green and everyone probably thought it was too fast. However, the second bounce had everyone widening their eyes and gaping their mouths as it bounced agonizingly close to the hole.

It bounced off the flagstick, which blocked its speed and it rolled a short distance from the hole. If not for the flagstick, it could’ve either gone off a little further on the tee or maybe it would’ve dropped in. We can only guess now, right?

With two days still left to go, they’re currently T-4. Lexi said, “I kind of knew going into it just the way he shapes shots into greens and off the tee and everything. I was actually expecting a lot more shot shaping, but it was still so impressive. I’m just amazed with the guys, how high they can hit it, how they can work balls into pins. I learn something every time I tee it up with the guys, especially Bubba.”
