The 2022 PGA Tour stops at Hawaii for its season opener. The 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions is going to take place at the Plantation Course in Kapalua, as usual. The par 73 Course will be host to the season opener with a total prize pool of $8.2 million and the winner taking home $1.476 million.

The tournament is an invitational tournament as usual. 38 out of 39 invited players will be battling it out at the Plantation Course.

The only player missing this week is Rory McIlroy. Rory had qualified for the 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions by winning the Wells Fargo Championship in 2021 and was invited. However, he decided to not play the tournament and will make his first appearance in 2022 in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship. Moreover, the exact reason is not known, but he may want to spend more time on his own. Rory did the same in the 2021 season when he made his first appearance on the PGA Tour at the Farmer’s Insurance Open.
