Grigor Dimitrov to Face Roger Federer Without Andre Agassi And Radek Stepanek

Former World Number three, Grigor Dimitrov held a straight-sets victory against the Australian, Alex De Minaur 7-5, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and seven minutes and reached the quarterfinals at the US Open 2019 for the first time in his career. In the last eight round, Dimitrov will face World Number three, Roger Federer.

While commentating the match at US Open, the former Australian tennis player, Mark Woodforde announced that Grigor Dimitrov is speculative about continuing his coaching league with Andre Agassi and Radek Stepanek.

The quarterfinalist at US Open 2019, Dimitrov is not being mentored by the tennis legends in New York, none of them were present in his box and apparently, neither of them are there at Flushing Meadows to guide him.

In the month of May, Grigor Dimitrov began his coaching league with Andre Agassi and Radek Stepanek during Rome Masters 2019 after parting ways with his former coach, Dani Vallverdu.

Lately, the World Number 78, Dimitrov has been dealing with consecutive first-round losses in various ATP tournaments. After losing to Felix Auger-Aliassime in the first round at Queen’s, Dimitrov could just win a match in Los Cabos. Post that, he lost in the opening round matches in the North American Masters swing to Stan Wawrinka.

At US Open 2019, Dimitrov held victories over Andres Seppi, Kamil Majchrzak, and Alex De Minaur. His was given a walkover in the second round as the Croatian, Borna Coric withdrew from the American major pertaining to an injury.

A delightful and emotional Dimitrov was seen after his fourth-round victory at Flushing Meadows. “There’s not much to say other than that I’m pleased to be back on a court, pain-free and feeling really good,” Dimitrov said in his on-court interview and was nearly in tears. “I’ve put a lot of miles in my legs (and) a lot of practice.”

The Bulgarian will take on the third seed, Roger Federer in the quarterfinals of  US Open 2019 and Dimitrov has never won a match against the Swiss, out of the seven times they have met. The battle of the one-handers will take place on Tuesday. 

“I’m already thinking about it,” Dimitrov reflected on his next match with Federer. “It’s my first time in the quarter-finals here of the US Open, so I’m going to make the most of it. This is what I practice for, to play these matches.”
