Guingamp’s French forward Nathael Julan dies in a car crash

Friday came as a sad day for the footballing world as French club, Guingamp, informed about the death of their 23-year-old striker Nathael Julan. 

In an official statement, the Ligue 2 club stated, “L’En Avant Guingamp is in mourning, The club had the immense pain to learn this afternoon of the accidental death of its player Nathael Julan.

“On this tragic day, all members of the club join together to express their sad condolences to Nathael’s family.”

The player was tragically involved in a car crash which he was driving himself. The unfortunate incident took place while he was returning from training on the road to Pordic, near the town of Saint-Brieuc. The last reports released stated that the firefighters were called at the location around 4:20 PM. No further official statement has been made about the incident.

Nathael Julan last appeared in a tie between Guingamp and Lorient in a Ligue 2 fixture. The forward who started his professional career with Le Havre has also played in Ligue 1 with Guingamp. The former Valenciennes striker also has a total of 10 Ligue 1 appearances registered against his name. All of these appearances came in the 2018-19 season, the same season which saw Guingamp get relegated.

In the wake of their striker’s death, Guingamp has cancelled their friendly match against Concarneau which was scheduled to be held today. Their next match is to be held on 11th of January when they would face in Lens in a Ligue 2 fixture.
