Indian off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has gone beyond the legendary Pakistani fast bowler, Wasim Akram, in terms of wickets taken in Test matches. Bhajji dismissed Bangladesh batsman Imrul Kayes on 72 to achieve the feat who was his 415th victim.

Harbhajan Singh took his 416th Test wicket to become the ninth-highest wicket-taker in the world and the third highest Indian wicket-taker, behind leg-spinner Anil Kumble and fast bowler Kapil Dev. Neither did he surpass Wasim Akram in the tally of wickets, but also achieved the number, two Test matches quicker than the Pakistani bowler.

Bhajji now has 416 wickets in 102 Test matches, just 18 wickets behind Kapil Dev’s record of 434 dismissals.

The rain-hit Test match between India and Bangladesh was Harbhajan’s first Test appearance after the Test match between India and Australia, way back in March 2013. He scalped 3 wickets in the first innings and gave Ashwin good support to keep knocking the Bangladeshi batting over.

But the exploits by Indian spinners couldn’t force a result in the rain-dominated test match. India dismissed Bangladesh for 256 in the first innings, and captain Virat Kohli enforced the follow-on, but Bangladesh safely batted the remaining overs and the match ended in a dull draw.
