Controversial NFL wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr., arrived in Cleveland with great expectations. The former LSU man garnered immense praise as he came to be regarded as one of the best wideouts in the league off the back of his brilliant displays with the Giants. Despite signing a five-year extension worth $95 million in 2018, the Giants agreed to trade OBJ to the Cleveland Browns before the 2019 season began.
Odell arrived in Cleveland along with DE Olivier Vernon, in exchange for Jabrill Peppers and Kevin Zeitler. The New York-based franchise also acquired the Browns’ first and third-round picks in the 2019 NFL draft for Odell Beckham Jr. However, his tenure in Cleveland has not gone as per plan.
On 74 receptions, OBJ had 1,000+ receiving yards with four TDs to his name over the course of his debut season with the Browns. He underwent core-muscle surgery in the offseason intending to come back stronger in 2020. However, the 27-year dealt with a major blow on Sunday after he suffered an ACL tear in the win against the Bengals.

It was a positive outing in the NFL for Kevin Stefanski’s Cleveland Browns. Their 34-37 win over Joe Burrow-led Cincinnati Bengals propelled them to a 5-2 record in the league. But a season-ending injury to star wide receiver, Odell Beckham Jr., dampened the celebrations in the team dressing room last night.
OBJ injured his left knee after trying to tackle Bengals’ cornerback, Darius Phillips. Seconds before that, Phillips intercepted a pass thrown by Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield and was rushing up the field.

An MRI scan on Monday confirmed that Odell suffered an ACL tear. This rules out the former NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year for the rest of the 2020 season. He finished his campaign with 23 receptions for 319 yards and four touchdowns in seven games. But will Odell feature for the Browns next season?
ACL tear could prove to be a blessing in disguise for Odell
Odell has been rumored to move away from Cleveland. After an embarrassing 38-7 loss in Week 6 to the Pittsburgh Steelers, reports emerged stating that OBJ is ‘unsettled.’

Analysts argued that the former LSU star should look for a trade deal or risk ruining the prime phase of his career playing under the inconsistent Cleveland Browns. However, everything has changed now after Beckham’s ACL tear.
Regardless of recent developments, head coach Kevin Stefanski has placed his faith in Odell.
“Obviously it’s a big loss and important part of what we do, so we’ll have to huddle up and figure out what our players do best. You never replace a player of Odell’s caliber with one player… That’s the challenge that we have, and I think our guys will be up to the challenge,” Stefanski told the press on Monday via USA Today.

This injury might make teams reluctant to take a risk and trade for Odell in the coming months. The average time to recover from an ACL injury is between 10-12 months. With the backing of Stefanski and his Browns teammates, it doesn’t seem like OBJ is leaving Cleveland soon.
