In a spot of great news for Daniil Kvyat, the Russian is still in with a shout of return to Red Bull Racing in 2020. Initially, Red Bull motorsport advisor Dr Helmut Marko admitted that Kvyat is not as close as the other two candidates. However, it now seems that he is slowly changing his mind about the 25-year old.

According to Marko, it would be presumptuous to declare that the Red Bull lineup will be announced after the Mexican GP.

“For some reason, I thought Mexico was after the US on the calendar,” he told Motorsport.com Russia. He also confirmed that Alex Albon and Pierre Gasly have all been signed up to Red Bull’s F1 programme for 2020 alongside Kvyat.

The Austrian even clarified earlier comment about Kvyat not being a front-runner for the Red Bull seat in 2020. He said: “What I meant was that we already know everything about Kvyat’s qualities. What we were not sure about what the ability of Albon. That’s what I meant.”

“We are considering only our three drivers. We have always said that. All of those drivers have contracts with Red Bull which stipulate that we are free to decide where they go.”

Meanwhile, perennial Formula One critic and 1997 world champion, Jacques Villeneuve, opened up on the situation. However, this time, he had more positive comments, where  he believed that Alex Albon has done enough to secure the seat full-time.

After the failed experiment called Pierre Gasly, Red Bull took a gamble to see if Albon could tame the raging Bull. Needless to say, it seems to have worked, and Red Bull now know how all three drivers have fared in the senior team. Kvyat had his first taste of the Red Bull in 2015, grabbing two podiums, before he was forced to make way for an upcoming Max Verstappen.
