The exit of Novak Djokovic has opened the draw up for other top players to win their maiden Grand Slam title. Dominic Thiem, Daniil Medvedev, and Alexander Zverev surely are the favorites to win the title now. Leading tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou has picked the players he feels have a better shot at winning the US Open 2020.
In the interview, Mouratoglou, who coaches Serena Williams, opines that Dominic Thiem is the best player left in the draw and tips him to win the title. He also believes Daniil Medvedev is a serious contender, but feels the scales weigh more in Thiem’s favor.

Why Mouratoglou feels Alexander Zverev has a genuine chance
Mouratoglou feels Thiem and Medvedev have the experience of playing a Grand Slam final over the others. However, he feels Alexander Zverev has a genuine chance as well, more so than Medvedev.
The main reason being that Thiem and Medvedev are on the same side of the draw and will meet in the semi-finals if they win their quarter-final matches on Wednesday. Mouratoglou also feels Zverev has less pressure this year.

“I didn’t mention Zverev on purpose because I feel like he has less pressure. Have been two, three years ago, he would be the one with the most pressure,” Mouratoglou said. “And maybe it’s his chance because I feel like he feels more free this year. Since the start of the tournament he’s playing more freely. He looks more confident. And maybe he wins one or two more matches and suddenly he’ll be able to.”

Alexander Zverev has already booked his place in the semi-final with a tough four-set win over Borna Coric. Meanwhile, Thiem faces Alex De Minaur in the quarter-final, while Medvedev faces countryman Andrey Rublev.
While the potential semi-final between Thiem and Medvedev could go either way, Zverev has a more favorable draw. He faces Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta in the semi-finals.
