“Yeah, he’s (her father) so annoying. Oh, my God (laughter). Do you hear his on-court coaching? I can’t believe it. He runs up to the bench talking about, Be calm. That’s it. He doesn’t give me any tactics. I can’t believe this. I was so mad (laughter),” said Naomi Osaka.

She further disclosed that, her father doesn’t really watch her matches and he usually looks for a television screen and follows her play. “But, yeah, definitely I don’t think my dad likes watching me play live. Normally everyone knows he sort of just walks around and gets sneak glimpses at the TV monitor,” Osaka added.

After her Australian Open 2019 victory and ascending on the crest of the WTA hill, Osaka was failing to win a series of matches and her performance graph on the WTA Tour had a downward slope.

“Yeah, for me, he kind of lets me do my own thing, which I like. Also I feel like I need structure a little bit because if I do my own thing for too long, I don’t know, I feel like I need guidance or advice from someone, you know?” She said.

However, she bounced back in her hometown Osaka, Japan in the later half of the season and lifted up the title there. Her winning streak  extended at China Open 2019, where Naomi Osaka concluded Bianca Andreescu’s 17-match winning streak on the WTA circuit followed by crushing the top-seed, Ash Barty in the finals of Beijing.
